So, the other day I found out that I made COMIC SHOP NEWS!! The very newspaper that I have received with every comic purchased that I have made pretty much my entire life. How cool is that?? A book that I did is in the NEWSPAPER that goes to thousands of Comic Stores each month!! This almost made me cry. I don't think you know how important this is to me. Imagine me looking at this newsletter (because WIZARD was expensive) and learning all I could about what is coming out and how to spend my money EACH AND EVERY WEEK. This newsletter has sold so many books to me. This now is gonna hopefully sell my work to someone else!! I am so blessed!!
So, I figured since the release date for digital is 1/18 and the physical release date is 1/25 that I would give each of you the origin story of COINS OF JUDAS.
So, lets start at the beginning of the first story, CHILDREN OF JUDAS was written for the MAD CAVE talent search this was a Wolvenheart story. MAD CAVE does this every year and some of my peers have submitted and won and i figured i would take my shot. It was a simple story about the children of judas. The children of judas are a creation of mine. In that story, it was kids that picked up the coins when they were thrown on the ground by judas and became these little demons and Wolvenheart was hunting them. It was a good little 8 pager that i was so proud of it. I really thought that i could win.
However, MADCAVE turned it down.
A few months later BAND OF BARDS announced an anthology called TALES FROM THE STATIC. (That book just arrived in comic shops) I saw it and i wanted to submit a story. So, i asked my friend TYLER CARPENTER if he was interested and being my artist. He said yes and I now have to re-work the story but i felt it was a good fit. I needed to replace wolvenheart. So, I dug deep in my files and found a character that i created years ago. Cullen! This father character has been around since 2003. He was a vampire hunter at the time and was going to be part of a very LARGE story called FORBIDDEN PARADISE. (It’s about a ANGEL who wants to start the apocalypse to see the love of his life just one more time.)
So, now I had a character with a solid backstory. I submitted it to BAND OF BARD’s and it was now a waiting game.
After a long delay
I received a response and it was again
DECLINED!!
So, now this story has been declined twice but this time it has a weird additional response. Here is the email I received

Hi Travis
Thank you for your submission to From the Static! We have a good news/bad news email for you.
First - we did not select your story for From the Static. We do however have an interest in developing your pitch as an individual one-shot(s) or a series.
We would like to extend this offer to have CHILDREN OF JUDAS published by Band of Bards in either 2023 or 2024. If this is something you are interested in let us know and we’ll start discussions in more detail. If you’d like to continue pitching your story for other anthologies we wish you nothing but success.
The bottom line is we like your pitch and feel it could be expanded beyond the smaller anthology format.
We are hoping to make great indie comics together!
Yours in pages and panels,
Chris & Tim

So, it was the weirdest decline that I have ever received and now this 8 page short needed to become a series because that was an exciting opportunity for Tyler and myself.
I will be back next week to go over that store of making a 8-page comic into a SERIES.
So, until then make sure you have ordered all these amazing books from your local comic store
